Former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth wants a rematch in the Hudson Valley.
Hayworth, a Bedford Republican who was defeated in her re-election bid in 2012, sent an email to supporters on Wednesday, notifying them of her plan Sunday to formally announce another bid for the 18th congressional district.
She was defeated by Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney in 2012 in the district that includes parts of Dutchess, Putnam and northern Westchester County. Maloney won by about 10,800 votes.
“I’ve spent the last 14 months touring our District, speaking to families and individuals who want change, people who want a representative in Congress who will speak for them, work for them, and never forget the principles that make this country great,” Hayworth wrote in a fundraising pitch.
Hayworth’s decision to enter the race doesn’t come as much of a surprise. She filed a statement of candidacy back in April of last year and had been meeting with potential donors and supporters.
