Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos, R-Nassau County, focused almost exclusively on fiscal and tax policies in his video message on Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State address.
He said the state should make the property-tax cap and the state’s spending cap should be made permanent. He said the Legislature should also pass an anti-corruption package.
He addresses the Women’s Equality Agenda, but says it should focus on helping women gain equality in the workforce. He has opposed the controversial provision that would have strengthened abortion rights.
“Senate Republicans recognize that you don’t create success by raising taxes. You create success by expanding opportunity,” Skelos said. “We should start by making it more affordable to live here by making the property tax cap and middle-class tax cuts we passed permanent.
“Next, we should completely eliminate the energy tax imposed by Democrats that’s costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars a year.”
