Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s briefing book offers a page of support for universal pre-kindergarten in New York, but he doesn’t offer any details on he would fund the program.
That might come in the Jan. 21 budget proposal as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio presses the Legislature to increase taxes on the wealthy in New York City. De Blasio said it would cost about $540 million a year.
“It’s time for New York to have universal pre-k statewide,” Cuomo said in his speech.
Cuomo has funded pre-k in some places in the state, but not statewide.
