Gov. Andrew Cuomo said today that the state expects to pick the operators for four upstate casinos by the early fall.
In his State of the State address Wednesday, Cuomo said applications will be accepted in March to build four casinos in three areas: the Southern Tier, Albany area and Catskills.
Bids will be due by June, and he said the selections will be done by the fall.
There are already at least three proposals in each region.
Cuomo said he will tap the president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Mark Gearan, to become chairman of the state’s Gaming Commission.
The commission will oversee the selection process.
