The husband of Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee’s chief of staff has been appointed to the state’s chief ethics commission, a spokesman for Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver said.
Silver quietly appointed Paul Casteleiro to the Joint Commission on Public Ethics to replace Ellen Yaroshefsky, who quit in disgust in October.
Casteleiro is a criminal attorney, and his wife is Darcy Casteleiro, who is Jaffee’s chief of staff, the Daily News first reported this morning.
Casteleiro told the Daily News that his wife plans to resign from Jaffee’s office in the next several weeks.
“There’s no conflict and even if there was one, they have rules on conflicts where you can recuse yourself,” he told the paper.
