Sen. Charles Schumer yesterday apparently confused Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy with the crack-smoking mayor of Toronto.
Schumer held an event in Buffalo yesterday to call for more U.S. Customs officers at the Peace Bridge. Afterwards, he was asked by reporters about Buffalo Niagara Partnership Cross Border Huddle and Business Symposium being held in Toronto.
Schumer said he’s “not aware of that,” and when told that Duffy was there, Schumer smirked and apparently confused Duffy, the former Rochester mayor, with Rob Ford, the disgraced mayor of Toronto.
“Bob Duffy was there?” Schumer said. “I’m glad I wasn’t.”
Asked to elaborate, Schumer said, “I said everything I’m supposed to say.”
Schumer’s staff later told the Buffalo News that he messed up and confused Duffy with Ford.
