Public hearings will be held on a request by Consolidated Edison Co. to increase energy rates, the state Public Service Commission announced today.
Con Edison wants to increase electric rates by about $419.9 million or 8 percent, gas rates by about $24.3 million or 2.5 percent, and steam service rates by about $10.2 million or 2.3 percent, Gannett’s Ashley Hupfl reports.
But customers would see a cost increase of 3.7 percent in electric rates, 1.3 percent for gas rates, and 1.6 percent for steam service rates. Con Edison provides power in New York City and its northern suburbs.
The Public Service Commission will consider the proposal and examine the facts and circumstances presented by Con Edison. The Department of Public Service staff has proposed to the commission that the Con Edison revenue request should be denied.
The commission will hold opportunities for the public to speak about the changes. It is not necessary to make an appointment in advance in order to speak at the public statement hearing.
The commission’s opinion line can be reached at 1-800-335-2120 and email sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
