This could help New York’s tourism efforts: The state has gone back-to-back in winning the Miss America pageant.
She succeeds another New Yorker for the title, Mallory Hagan, who lives in Brooklyn.
After her win, Davuluri took a traditional walk along the ocean in Atlantic City, N.J. this morning. She is the first contestant of Indian heritage to win the crown.
The Associated Press said Davuluri wants to be a doctor and is applying to medical school. She gets a $50,000 scholarship for the award.
Hagan and Davuluri reportedly do not have the closest relationship.
The New York Post reported she was allegedly tape-recorded blasting Hagan as “fat as [bleep].” Davuluri and the pageant denied it.
