New York Farm Bureau today announced a new scholarship for high school seniors pursuing an agricultural career, reports Gannett’s Ashley Hupfl.
They are offering $1,500 for first place, $1,200 for second, and $1,000 for third place. The first place winner will also be invited to present their essay at a NYFB event. The New York Farm Bureau Agricultural Youth Scholarship is sponsored by the New York Farm Bureau Promotion and Education committee.
Applicants will have a personal interview and present their essay answering the question, “If you had the power to change something in your community or on your farm, what would you change and why?” Applicants must have a student or family Bureau membership to apply, but students can apply along with the scholarship application. Applications must be submitted by Nov. 18.
Each Farm Bureau district will have a winner and will be announced on Jan. 18. The winners have the opportunity to make last changes to their essays before resubmitting them before Feb. 1 for statewide judging.
The scholarship is an effort to utilize and engage young people in agriculture for the state, the New York Farm Bureau said in a statement.
