The latest YNN/Voice of the Voter/Siena College poll had Rochester Mayor Tom Richards with a massive 36-point lead over his Democratic primary challenger, City Council President Lovely Warren.
The poll, as it turned out, was wrong. Way wrong.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Warren knocked Richards from the Democratic line, besting the incumbent by more than 2,400 votes, according to unofficial results from the Monroe County Board of Elections.
The win means Warren, who was first elected councilwoman in 2007, will advance to the general election on the Democratic line, where she’ll face Green Party candidate Alex White.
Richards, who was the pick of the Monroe County Democratic Committee, will be left with a decision. If he doesn’t end his campaign, Richards has the Independence and Working Families parties’ ballot lines on the November ballot.
