Democratic lawmakers from both chambers gathered at a Capitol news conference Wednesday to call for increased education funding.
Hailing from all over the state, the legislators advocated for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed $203 million fiscal stabilization funds to be distributed as formula aid. They also asked for an additional $350 million from what’s in Cuomo’s budget proposal.
The governor proposed allocating about $21.1 billion to education next year, about a 4.4 percent or $889 million increase from this year. Schools said they will continue to make classroom cuts under the proposed funding.
