With the state’s budget deadline just a few weeks away, the state Capitol’s hallways are getting more and more crowded.
Here’s a partial rundown of who’s meeting with lawmakers today:– The Ultimate Fighting Championship. The major promoter has been lobbying state lawmakers to lift New York’s ban on professional mixed martial arts bouts for the past several years, and are again hoping that this may be their year. Among those at the Capitol today are UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and fighters Ronda Rousey and Chris Weidman. – The Rochester Community Coalition. The Rochester-based of elected officials and local interests is at the Capitol lobbying on a variety of issues. In attendance: Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, a Republican. – Construction trade groups and organizations representing local governments, pushing for more direct infrastructure money for municipalities. – Mental health organizations, who will be lobbying against Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed cuts to non-profit providers who contract with the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities.
