Cuomo says Florida fundraising trips are not about 2016

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said his upcoming fundraising trips to Florida is about raising money—but not for 2016.

[1]Cuomo faces re-election next year, and Politico reported Feb. 24 that Cuomo has a number of high-donor fundraising events [2]over the next six months, including two in Florida. One event includes a Paul Simon concert, Politico said.

“It’s about raising money, that’s what that’s about. It’s not about the music. I can tell you that much. Paul Simon is great, but …”

Asked if the fundraising is about a potential presidential run in 2016, Cuomo responded: “Is it about New York or 2016? It is about the state of New York and my campaign in the state of New York.”

So why Florida, the Democratic governor was asked?

“It’s about the fundraising. There is potential fundraising for me in the state of Florida,” he responded.

Before that line of questioning, Cuomo was critical of the gridlock in Washington and pointed to his own successes in Albany—once the hallmark of dysfunction.

“Look, you can turn around Albany, you can turn around anything,” Cuomo, the former HUD secretary, said.

“I was in the federal government for many years. I have great respect for the federal government. It’s done a lot of good work. I was part of an administration that did great work. I have confidence in this president, so I think they’ll get it done, but this process in and of itself has taken a toll.”
