2,157 miles of road paved in NY

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today that all 172 highway-paving projects in the state have been completed through a $230 million contract over the last nine months through the NY Works program, Gannett’s Haley Viccaro reports.

[1]The replacement of pavement at all of the sites included about 2,157 miles of road. The last project in the program was the Long Island Expressway between exits 68 and 73 in Suffolk County.

“NY Works aims to improve the state’s transportation infrastructure and increase safety for drivers, while cutting costs for government and creating jobs for our families,” Cuomo said in a statement.

The pavement projects were all completed on time and within less than 9 months of the governor’s 2012-13 budget, Cuomo said. The improvements were all within the budget.

The NY Works program expedites infrastructure projects and also creates jobs in the state. The goal of the paving projects was to improve roads in fair condition to good condition.

“The infusion of NY Works funding helped to improve the overall health of our state’s roads while creating immediate jobs and supporting economic development across New York,” said State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald in a statement.

Here is a list of the paving projects completed statewide:
