Cuomo Aides To Answer Questions New Gun Law In Upstate NY

Members of the State Police and the state Division of Criminal Justice Services are visiting parts of upstate tomorrow to address the NY-SAFE Act, the new gun-control law passed Jan. 15.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has come under criticism for the new law, which enacts the toughest assault-weapons ban in the nation and limits the number of bullets in a magazine to seven. [1]

As he has done with his other major initiatives, Cuomo will send out his aides to build public support for the new law. A Siena College poll earlier this month showed wide support for the tougher gun-control measures, but gun owners, particularly upstate, have knocked the law as infringing on Second Amendment rights.

Cuomo’s office said the events are not to promote the gun law, but to simply answer questions about it from the public.
