The joint budget hearings kick off Monday with the so-called “tin-cup brigade” of mayors who will testify about their need for more state aid and reforms for local governments.
It will be the first of more than 12 budget hearings over the next few weeks as lawmakers review the state budget proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. They have to have a deal by April 1, the start of the fiscal year.
The state’s Legislative Channel, which is on cable stations across the state, will carry the proceedings. The hearings start Monday and run through Feb. 27.
The state Legislature said that people who want to testify must contact the person listed on the schedule no later than the close of business, two days prior to the respective hearing. People have to bring 40 copies of their testimony.
