Former Assemblyman George Amedore, whose bid for the state Senate came up 18 votes short, acknowledged “mistakes” in his campaign Tuesday while declining to say if he would reenter politics.
Amedore, of Rotterdam, Schenectady County, lost to Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk by 18 votes. A lengthy appeals process in the race came to a close last week. The 46th Senate District includes parts of five counties, including Ulster.
The Republican said his party needs to do a better job at rebranding itself for a new age.
“On certain issues, yeah, I believe that how we preference, how we market, how we go out there to the public needs to be different,” Amedore said. “It can’t be the same. The perspective and what people think the Republican Party is is a bunch of white-haired old men joining a country club who sip tea or whatever.”
Amedore said he hasn’t made up his mind if he’ll run for the seat again, but said he will “continue to serve the public.”
