A day after signing a sweeping new package of gun laws in New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo is in Rochester today to tout the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Act.
The fact that Cuomo’s first stop after signing the bill is in Rochester is no mistake. The law includes the “Webster provision”—a life-without-parole sentence for anyone who murders a first responder in the line of duty. The provision is named after the Monroe County town where two firefighters were shot and killed when responding to a fire on Christmas Eve.
