Here’s What a $1 Million Campaign Contribution Looks Like

Here’s the filing posted today of the $1 million check that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg wrote in October to the Senate Republican Campaign Committee’s housekeeping account.
It’s considered the largest single campaign contribution given to the Senate Republicans, and you’d have to venture it’s the largest single contribution to a party ever in state history.
And the money from the billionaire mayor, who is an independent, went to the Senate’s housekeeping account.
Why? Because under New York law, housekeeping accounts can take in a limitless amount of cash. The money can be used for “party-building activities,” but not directly for a campaign.
The Senate’s housekeeping account took in a whooping $2.8 million over the past six months and spent about the same. It still has $1 million in its coffers.
Updated: NYPIRG’s Bill Mahoney notes that Robert Mercer once gave $1 million to the Conservative Party’s housekeeping account.
And Bloomberg also gave a series of checks totaling $1.2 million to the state’s Independence Party , which led to trouble for its recipient, John Haggerty.
