Special-interest groups today sent a petition with over 5,000 signatures to the state Appellate Court urging for all ballots to be counted in the 46th Senate District race, Gannett’s Haley Viccaro reports.

The undecided Senate race with Republican George Amedore against Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk is the only remaining undecided Senate seat. Tkaczyk plans to meet with the state Appellate Court on Monday to request that all ballots be counted.

The petition asks the court to rule that the remaining 331 ballots be opened and counted.

“Over 5,000 people from across the state – and almost 1,000 in the 46th district alone – are counting on this appellate court to protect the core value of our democracy: one person, one vote,” said Karen Scharff, executive director of Citizen Action of New York, in a statement.

The Appellate Court will hear arguments from voters in the case on Monday.
