State Police Issued 33,000 Tickets During Holiday Sweep

State Police said it issued more than 33,000 tickets and arrested 538 people for DWI from Dec. 14 through Jan. 1, Gannett’s Haley Viccaro reports.

[1]During the campaign, more than 10,000 drivers were ticketed for speed, not wearing seat belts or properly restraining children in vehicles.

It was part of a national effort involving more than 20,000 police agencies to crack down DWI, called the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

More than 10,000 drivers in New York received speeding tickets and tickets for not wearing seatbelts or restraining children, State Police said. Police reported 29 sobriety checkpoints, 10 saturation details, 12 underage drinking and sales to minors details and 41 other local DWI patrols.

Police also had 12 underage drinking initiative details, checked 14 bars and 120 retail establishments statewide. They made 22 arrests for providing alcohol to minors and 12 penal law violations.
