Only 9 School Districts Have Not Submitted Evaluation Plan

The state Education Department celebrated Wednesday that 682 school districts have submitted teacher and principal evaluation plans for approval, and 533 districts have received it. That leaves only nine districts that have yet to submit.
The districts face a Jan. 17 deadline to get their plans approved, or they’ll lose a scheduled 4-percent increase in state aid.
The massive New York City district is one that has not yet reached an agreement with local unions, and so, has not submitted.
“Every day, we’re getting closer to full compliance,” Education Commissioner John King said in a statement. “Hundreds of districts and local unions have worked hard to get the job done.”
The fact that the vast majority of districts have submitted plans shows a “remarkable response to an important but complicated issue,” King said.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo stressed again Wednesday that the state won’t budge on the mid-month deadline.
“If you start extending deadlines, there is no such thing as a deadline,” he said, “and the overwhelming majority of school districts will make the deadline.”
