Another 2,100 registered sex offenders have been knocked off of online gaming networks after an additional five companies agreed to purge them from their books, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Wednesday.

[1]Gaia Online, NCSOFT Corp., FunCon and THQ Inc. agreed to participate in “Operation:Game Over,” a Schneiderman-led initiative to purge sex offenders from participating in gaming networks. Microsoft, Apple and a handful of other major companies agreed to participate earlier this year [2].

In all, some 5,600 accounts have been wiped out since the sweep was launched.

“The Internet is the crime scene of the 21st century, and we must ensure that online video game platforms do not become a digital playground for dangerous predators,” Schneiderman said in a statement.
