During a radio interview on WGDJ-AM in Albany this morning, Gov. Andrew Cuomo unveiled something previously missed by the capital’s political scribes: He appeared in last week’s episode of “American Chopper.”

[1]Cuomo, a Harley-Davidson owner who is a fan of The Discovery Channel show [2], was shown with star Paul Teutul Jr. in Staten Island, touring damage from Superstorm Sandy and distributing goods that were donated by the show’s crew.

“If we were as popular as he was, we wouldn’t have to run for election,” Cuomo told Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, referring to Teutul Jr.

Cuomo toured Orange County Choppers’ Newburgh facility during his gubernatorial campaign, and the picture above appears on his campaign website.

During the show, Cuomo spoke of the “catastrophic” impact Sandy had on certain communities.

“The one thing that is giving people strength is the outpouring of support. (Teutul Jr.’s) coming is what it’s all about,” Cuomo said. “He cared enough to get in the car and drive a couple of hours, just to tell people he cares about them and he’s thinking about them. And everybody appreciated it, and so did I.”

Later, Cuomo is seen at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, welcoming a newly restored, custom-made chopper back to the museum after it had been damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

You can watch the full episode below. Cuomo’s first appearance comes around the 25:00 mark.
