The woman who gave a state trooper a $1,000 unsolicited gift has come forward, the Associated Press reported.
Last week, State Police said they were looking for the woman because police cannot accept gifts. They found the woman, but didn’t disclose her name.
The money is being donated to a charity run by Stewarts convenience stores.
From the AP story:
GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say the woman who gave a New York state trooper a holiday card containing $1,000 in cash as a thank you for his service has come forward.
State police had been trying to find the woman since she handed the card to the on-duty trooper on Dec. 2 in the Albany suburb of Guilderland. Trooper Christopher Maniscalco didn’t realize it contained the money until he opened it when his shift ended.
Under state law, members of the state police can’t accept such gifts.
The woman, whose name isn’t being released, came forward on Monday. Police say Maniscalco confirmed she was the woman who gave him the card.
Police say she took back the money and donated it to a holiday charity run by the Stewarts Shops convenience stores.
