Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today that a biopharmaceutical company will establish manufacturing operations at Rockland County’s Pearl River Campus, Gannett’s Haley Viccaro reports.
A vaccine and biopharmaceutical company Protein Sciences Corporation will invest in an expansion that will create 50 new high-paying jobs, which could grow to a total of 150 jobs in the next decade.
“This multi-million investment will create dozens of new jobs in the Lower Hudson Valley, with the potential for many more in the future,” Cuomo said in a statement.
The company is leasing two buildings that span 83,000 square feet and will focus on the production of machinery and equipment for Flubok, the world’s first recombinant influenza vaccine.
“With its unique assets and educated workforce, the Pearl River campus in Rockland County is the perfect fit for such an innovative life sciences company,” said Empire State Development President and CEO Kenneth Adams.
Empire State Development will give Protein Sciences $2 million in tax credits through the Excelsior Jobs Program. The company will also be making a multi-million investment in the project.
“This is yet another example of how New York State is working to foster innovation and create good paying jobs right here in the Hudson Valley,” said Sen. David Carlucci in a statement.
The Pearl River campus is a leading site in biology and vaccine research and houses one of Pfizer’s research and development centers. The Food and Drug Administration is expected to approve the new Flubok medication no later than mid-January.
