Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today that the State Insurance Fund is extending payment deadlines for policyholders affected by Superstorm Sandy, Gannett’s Haley Viccaro reports.
Payment deadlines scheduled between Oct. 26 and Dec. 26 will be extended to Jan. 26 for policyholders in the Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, Queens and Westchester counties.
“Communities impacted by the storm depend greatly on the ability of our local businesses to have the flexibility and resources they need to get back to business,” Cuomo said in a statement.
People affected by Sandy will receive a 30-day grace period and some could receive a 90-day grace period for workers’ compensation and disability benefits. Policyholders will also be protected from penalties or cancellations for 30 days following the storm.
“In addition to the financial resources and assistance the State is currently offering to businesses, we are providing up to 90-day extensions for premium payments to help businesses recover,” Cuomo said in a statement.
In a news release from the governor’s office, the State Insurance Fund is requesting that policyholders contact their underwriter to set up payment plans for recovery after Sandy. Questions can be directed to local business offices or the State Insurance Fund at 1-877-898-8308.
