Bronx, Orleans Still With Highest Unemployment Rates in NY

The latest regional unemployment figures broken down by the state Department of Labor shows unemployment was up in all corners of the state in October compared to the previous year.

Bronx and Orleans showed the highest rate by county, coming it at 12.5 and 10.2 percent, respectively.

Among regions, unemployment was highest in New York City (9.2 percent) and lowest in the northern suburban counties of Westchester, Rockland and Putnam (6.9 percent) in October of this year.

The Westchester/Rockland/Putnam figure increased from 6.5 percent in October 2011.

In western New York, the Rochester metro area saw a 7.8 percent unemployment rate in October 2012, up from 7.2 percent the previous year.

The statewide unemployment rate of 8.7 percent was unveiled last week.
