MSNBC host Chris Hayes was critical of Gov. Andrew Cuomo over the weekend for not doing more to put the state Senate back in Democrats’ hands.
Cuomo hasn’t indicated whether he wants Republicans or Democrats to control the chamber in January, but he has had a good working relationship with Republicans, who have held the majority since 2011.
Republicans may still have the majority in January after Democratic Sen.-elect Simcha Felder of Brooklyn said he would sit with the Republicans, and two Senate seats are still undecided. So it’s 31-31 right now.
“So what do we know that we didn’t know last week? We now know that Democrats cannot count on New York’s supposedly Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo as an ally and every Democratic primary voter in the entire country should know that too,” Hayes said. “We already knew that in the run up to the election, Andrew Cuomo, whose aspirations for national office are well-known, did essentially nothing to aid the Democratic Party in its quest to take back the the state Senate from Republicans.”
