Thruway Authority: More Evaluation Needed On Toll Increase

The Thruway Authority says it’s not ready to make a decision on whether to move forward with a 45 percent toll increase on trucks.

[1]The proposal was first made in May.

“The proposed toll increase for trucks is a complex issue that requires more evaluation before it is presented to the Board to consider,” said the Thruway’s executive director Thomas Madison in a statement.

“The Thruway is looking at a number of options and doing extensive research and it will continue to do this due diligence work before another meeting is called and a recommendation is made.”

The board is not expected to meet before Thanksgiving, which is next week.

Business leaders said the Thruway is being disingenuous.

The National Federation of Independent Business said there should be a forensic audit of the Thruway’s finances before a toll increase moves forward.

“The combination of financial mismanagement and poor judgment by the authority fully justifies a complete examination of the agency’s fiscal and administrative decisions,” said the group’s executive director Mike Durant. “It also argues strongly against raising costs on businesses, consumers and commuters until the audit is complete.”
