UnitedHealth Group, which employs more than 4,000 people in 16 offices across New York, said today it is donating $1 million to support Superstorm Sandy relief efforts for New York and New Jersey.
“We have thousands of employees and millions of customers affected across the region, and by working with leadership in both states we hope to contribute to the rebuilding of communities and people’s lives in a meaningful way,” said Rich Collins, Northeast Region CEO for UnitedHealthcare, in a statement.
The company said it had also launched an employee fundraising effort for its 100,000 employees to donate to the Red Cross relief fund, and the company said it would match any contribution.
It said it has registered nurses and licensed social workers from UnitedHealth Group’s various businesses volunteering time in the relief efforts.
New York has raised millions of dollars from companies for its relief efforts. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today that he is starting the Empire State Relief Fund to raise money, mainly for permanent housing in the New York City area.
