A Putnam County man known as “Dirtman” pleaded guilty today in county court to operating a large unpermitted landfill in the New York City Watershed in Carmel, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced.
In 2010, Adinolfi, 52, of Mahopac, created an illegal landfill at a residential property at 737 Croton Falls Road, with hundreds of truckloads coming in over the period, Schneiderman said. It included a variety of construction debris and some leaked into the New York City watershed, Schneiderman said.
“Jeopardizing New Yorkers’ drinking water by dumping contaminated waste into illegal landfills is deplorable,” the Democratic attorney general said in a statement.
Schneiderman said Adinolfi charged truck drivers $75 per load and his company, Dirtman Enterprises Inc., earned more than $300,000 over two years.
