A statewide pro-choice advocacy group has sponsored advertisements advising voters to “get the facts behind Sean Hanna’s War on Women.”
NARAL Pro-Choice New York’s online banner ad features photos of four women and includes the text: “This Election Day, we can be safe, or we can be sorry. Get the facts behind Sean Hanna’s War on Women … before it’s too late.”
Another ad states that Hanna is against Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. It says the assemblyman is “for giving guns to people convicted of domestic violence” and that he “thinks equal pay for women in socialism.”
“There probably isn’t another race in this state where the difference on women’s issues is more clear cut,” Andrea Miller, the group’s president, told Gannett’s Albany Bureau. “If he (Hanna) won’t come clean with voters about his extreme views on critical women’s health and rights issues, it’s our job to make sure voters have the facts before November 6.”
UPDATE: The response from Hanna’s campaign is as follows:
“NARAL doesn’t speak for women, and these ads show why,” said Alexandra Touhey, Hanna’s chief of staff. “NARAL will fabricate anything to pursue its fringe agenda.
“Women in this area know that Sean Hanna has a long record of creating jobs for men and women,” she continued. “He has delivered for countless middle-income single mothers the lowest income-tax rates in 58 years. He passed a property tax cap and restored the STAR program for widows struggling to stay in their homes. By improving our business climate, he is creating local opportunities for young women graduating from college. And when we pursue careers here, our families stay together. You couldn’t hope for more.”
