Rep. Louise Slaughter, a Democratic incumbent from Fairport, Monroe County, has a 10-point lead over her Republican challenger, according to a new poll released Thursday.
Slaughter is facing a challenge from well-known Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, thought of by many as an on-the-rise Republican in New York. According to the Siena College survey, Slaughter currently has a 52-42 percent lead over Brooks, with 6 percent undecided or not voting.
The newly redrawn 25th Congressional District, which includes nearly all of Monroe County including the city of Rochester, has a 9-point enrollment edge for Democrats.
Slaughter has been in Congress since 1987, though her district previously wrapped around the coast of Lake Ontario and picked up portions of the Buffalo area. Brooks has been Monroe County executive since 2004, and was county clerk beforehand.
