Two days after his Republican opponent hit the air, Democratic congressional candidate Julian Schreibman is out with a television advertisement of his own.
Schreibman, an Ulster County attorney, is running against incumbent Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, for the newly drawn 19th Congressional District, which touches parts of the mid-Hudson Valley (all of Ulster and most of Dutchess), the Southern Tier and the Capital Region.
The new ad highlights Schreibman’s time as an Ulster County prosecutor in the mid-2000s, before the narrative shifts and tries to paint Gibson as a Tea Party Republican who supports “gutting” Medicare. (The ad is referring to Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan, a version of which Gibson supported in 2011 but voted against this year.)
Gibson, meanwhile, released an ad of his own this week, focusing on his time as an Army officer. Both the Democratic and Republican congressional campaign committees have also released ads in the district.
