A Rochester-area state Senate candidate will head downstate to raise money in a key race that could help decide control of the chamber.
Ted O’Brien, a Democratic Monroe County legislator facing Assemblyman Sean Hanna for a western New York Senate seat, will host a fundraiser in Manhattan later this month as he seeks to replace retiring Sen. James Alesi, R-Perinton, Monroe County. The event will feature an appearance from Manhattan Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, a Democrat.
The Hanna/O’Brien race is one of a handful being closely contested by both Democrats and Republicans, along with districts in the Buffalo area, the Hudson Valley and New York City’s outer boroughs. Republicans currently hold a 33-29 edge in the Senate, and a 63rd seat is in play this election cycle.
Here’s the fundraiser invitation from Sen. Michael Gianaris, a Queens Democrat heading up his conference’s re-election efforts:
I hope you are well and that you were able to enjoy a relaxing end to the summer. Here at the DSCC, our campaigns are in full swing and I’m emailing today about one state senate candidate in particular, Ted O’Brien.
As the Democratic Leader of the Monroe County Legislature, Ted is running for the 55th Senate District on a record of reducing the tax burden on middle class families, giving small businesses the tools they need for job creation and protecting the rights of workers and women across New York.
That is why on Thursday, September 27th, I am pleased to join special guest Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney in NYC for a reception in support of Ted’s campaign. The details are:
