After closing a nearly $90 million budget gap and facing budget woes for years to come, the city of Yonkers is selling off some of its unused items on eBay.
There’s 10 used vehicles up for sale, and there is some other intriguing items—a Furex 5000 Body Fat and Fitness Computer from the 1990s (starting bid $20); a used traffic light (starting bid $100); and a city of Yonkers golf umbrella (starting bid $1).
The Furex 5000 Body Fat and Fitness Computer (seen, left) was purchased in early 1990’s to assist in the measurement of fitness levels of detention officer and police officer candidates, the eBay description says. “This medical testing device was performed during the physical agility portion of the exam,” the description says.
There’s some old Polaroid cameras and slide projectors available under www.yonkerscarstore.com
“This is a great example of Yonkers seeking creative methods to generate revenue as a result of eliminating wasteful spending,” said Mayor Michael Spano in a statement. “The ease and accessibility of selling surplus city-owned assets online provides residents a one-stop shop to take part in the fiscal health of our City.”
Overall, about two dozen items are up for sale. Bidding runs through July 6. Automobile bids start at $500.
The financially strapped city is the latest government to turn to eBay to sell unwanted stuff. The state netted $1.6 million through an eBay sale this spring.
