Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said today, “We’re going to end this session with a bang, not a bong.”
Skelos said Senate Republicans would continue to oppose making up to 25 grams of marijuana not a misdemeanor, but a fine. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has sought the legislation mainly to curb the heavily criticized stop-and-frisk policy in New York City.
“That’s 63 joints, and I’ve been waiting to say this to you all: We’re going to end this session with a bang, not a bong. Okay. Now, if that gets me on the Daily Show again, my son will be absolutely thrilled.”
It was a good zinger for Skelos, whose original line about the marijuana bill—“Being able to just walk around with 10 joints in each ear and it only be a violation, I think that’s wrong”—got him on the Daily Show and the name “Fran Narc-ington.”
Skelos started by saying that the Senate will take up the teacher evaluation disclosure bill after discussing it in conference this morning.
