Former White Plains Mayor Adam Bradley dipped into his campaign account in November, spending $4,918 for legal counsel with Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a Chicago-based national law firm, campaign-finance records show. (h/t to NYPIRG’s Bill Mahoney)
A year ago the Journal News took a look at how Bradley spent from his campaign account for lawyers and crisis communications firms. At the time, Bradley had paid $4,000 to the same firm; his lawyers said it was a retainer for advice on ethics matters.
Elected officials are allowed to spend money on legal fees — a loophole in state election law.
The latest filing shows only the money spent on Hinshaw & Culbertson. Bradley still had $138,186 in his campaign account of this month, when the latest filings are due.
