The Public Employees Federation sent the below memorandum to state lawmakers in support of state worker pensions.
The talking points take a page out of state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s past statements on the pension fund, namely that it’s fully funded and given a national award.
State workers, in addition to girding for the possibility of massive layoffs in Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s state budget, are also concerned that officials will push through a new, less generous Tier VI retirement program in order to cut down on future costs.
Fiscal experts have warned that the cost of the state pension fund is unsustainable and needs to be overhauled in order for it to remain solvent.
