From Genesee County to Cayuga County.
Carl Paladino, the Buffalo developer who is challenging former Rep. Rick Lazio for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, announced today the backing of Cayuga County GOP leaders.
“On behalf of the Cayuga County Republican Executive Committee, I proudly endorse Carl Paladino for Governor of the State of New York,” said Cherl Heary, the chairwoman of the county’s Republican committee. “Carl is a successful businessman and attorney who understands the burdens placed on employers in New York State. Carl has also demonstrated he won’t be bullied by the career politicians and he has shown he will do what he says.”
This is the second upstate county this week to go to Paladino. Of course, this support meant more earlier this year before the Republicans held their June convention. Ultimately, Lazio received enough of the party’s backing over the state committee’s preferred candidate, Democrat-turned-Republican Steve Levy of Suffolk County.
Earlier this week, Paladino announced he had the support of the Republican leadership in Genesee County.
“As this race unfolds, GOP county chairs across the State are learning I am the only true reformer in this race,” Paladino said in a statement. “They’re also coming to agree with rank-and-file Republicans who know Rick Lazio is a good man who simply cannot win.”
