Protest Planned For Bruno’s Albany Fundraiser
With mops and brooms, protesters are planning to be outside an Albany-area fundraiser for former Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.
The fundraiser is to help his legal defense fund after he was convicted last month on federal charges of using his office to benefit himself.
The fundraiser has been criticized in part because it is being hosted by John Nigro, a member of the state’s Legislative Ethics Commission.
On Friday, campaign-finance records showed that Bruno has burned through the more than $1 million he had in his account to fund his legal bills.
“Joe Bruno is proof that we need ethics reform” said Doug Bullock, an Albany County legislator, said in a statement. “Bruno was using his government office, staff, and lawyers – all for personal profit. His felony conviction of this theft cries out for legislative reform.”
