Sean Coffey, a former federal prosecutor who lives in Bronxville, Westchester County, said he’s raised about $1.65 million for his potential run for attorney general, the latest Democrat to report more than $1 million in the bank for the likely race.
Coffey left his Manhattan law firm in October to explore a run for attorney general as most expect Attorney General Andrew Cuomo will run for governor.
Coffey put out a letter to supporters today saying that he raised $1.5 million in the last six weeks.
The money has been rolling in for potential Democratic candidates for the seat. Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice reported having $2.4 million on hand, $1.75 million for Eric Dinallo, the former state Insurance Department superintendent, and $1.3 million for Assemblyman Richard Brodsky, D-Greenburgh, Westchester County.
Sen. Jeff Klein, D-Bronx, another potential candidate, said he will file with about $1.3 million, and Sen. Eric Schneiderman, D-Manhattan is expected to have more than $900,000.
