Rudy Giuliani plans to endorse Rick Lazio for governor tomorrow afternoon in Manhattan, a Republican source said this evening, and Giuliani is also planning to say he will not run for the U.S. Senate.
The Daily News and New York Post reported that Giuliani, as most Republican officials expected, is planning to stay in the private sector and not run against Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. A source confirmed tonight that he will say he will not run for the seat.
“It would be no big surprise,” a Republican official said tonight about Giuliani’s plans to stay out of the race.
The endorsement for Lazio will be his biggest yet as he seeks to build support for his gubernatorial bid.
He also picked up the endorsement Monday of Oneida County GOP chairman George Joseph.
Last month, aides said Giuliani would not run for governor.
