Former President Clinton weighed in this morning on the Gov. David Paterson debate over whether he should heed the White House’s call and not run for office next year.
Clinton, speaking on the Today show, said Paterson will have to decide for himself whether to run, saying if Paterson believes he has a reasonable chance of winning he would run or if the odds are 10 to 1 against him he probably wouldn’t.
“He’s not in good shape now,” Clinton said. “But I’ll say this about David Paterson. He’s a good man. He has achieved a lot in his life and the people who really know him tend to really like him.”
“I think that he will do in the end what he believes is best for New York and I think we should trust him to do that.”
Here’s the clip. He talks about Paterson at the 9:00 mark.
