“This morning, I spoke with my colleague, State Senator Hiram
Monserrate, and he confirmed that he will be rejoining the Democrat
conference, as he was unable to convince additional Democrats to join the
bipartisan reform caucus at this time.
“While Senator Monserrate will be returning to the Democrat
conference, he has assured me that he continues to support my historic
election as Temporary President of the New York State Senate.
“Today, State Supreme Court Judge Thomas McNamara will rule on Malcolm
Smith’s challenge to the election of new Senate leadership and the
significant and far-reaching reforms we adopted at that time. We are
confident that Judge McNamara will clarify the leadership vote and our
