Skelos To Paterson: Resubmit Budget
Senate Minority Leader Dean Skelos, R-Nassau County, today is calling for Gov. David Paterson to resubmit the proposed 2009-10 budget proposal in order to reflect the billions of dollars the state will get in the federal stimulus package.
“Everything has changed now since he submitted the budget,” Skelos said after addressing the state Association of Counties this morning.
Skelos said the goal is not to slow the budget negotiations, but to reopen discussions and the governor’s priorities in the wake of the federal stimulus package. The deadline to pass a state budget is April 1.
Skelos told county leaders that the stimulus money should be used first to eliminate the 137 new taxes and fees that Paterson proposed in his budget package in December.
