Paterson Rescheduling Town Halls
Gov. David Paterson’s decision to skip yesterday’s town-hall meeting in Binghamton is not only not sitting well with some in the Southern Tier, it’s also upended the rest of his town-hall meeting schedule.
He has postponed his tentatively scheduled plans to do a town-hall meeting in Rochester next Wednesday so he can do the Binghamton one. And he’s not yet set to do one at SUNY Geneseo a week from today because a town-hall is tentatively scheduled the same day at SUNY Morrisville, which is being billed as a town-hall for students.
Aides said the governor is still committed to doing a town hall in Rochester and in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area, though no dates are set.
But some Binghamton residents were not happy yesterday that Paterson canceled his trip there so he could attend a bill signing in Washington with President Obama on expanding health insurance for children.
“I think his constituents in the state should take precedence over a bill signing,” the Binghamton city treasurer Patricia Schwartz told the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin.
