Advocates meet on 10th anniversary of abortion doc’s murder

October

Gannett News Service reporter Heather Senison went to Family Planning Advocates’ annual meeting in Albany today. This is her report:

Family Planning Advocates, an advocacy group that represents New York’s Planned Parenthood affiliates, today handed out three awards honoring distinguished advocacy for women’s reproductive rights.

The organization’s conference today coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Dr. Barnett Slepian, an obstetrician/gynecologist who was murdered in his Amherst, Erie County, house by abortion opponent James Kopp. Then-Gov. George Pataki called the murder of Slepian, who performed abortions in Buffalo, an “act of terrorism.”

“A woman has a right to determine what happens in her own life,” said Alan Chartock, keynote speaker at the award ceremony and president of WAMC public radio in Albany.

The Rev. Beatrice Blair Courageous Service Award was given to Dr. Amy Cousins of Central New York. Cousins graduated from Harvard Medical School and became an obstetrician and a gynecologist. The award is named for a former executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice America.

The Shirley Gordon Public Policy Leadership Award was presented to Deborah Kaplan, assistant commissioner of the Bureau of Maternal, Infant and Reproductive Health at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The award is named for a former executive director of Family Planning Advocates.

The third award presented was the Alfred R. Moran Public Advocacy Award, presented to JoAnn Smith of Albany. Smith served as president and CEO of Family Planning Advocates from 1995 to 2008. Moran was CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City from 1966 until 1989.

“This is the most important work of all,” Chartok said, referring to the roles the award-winning women have played in advocating for women’s health and rights.

Barnett Slepian reaped what he sowed. Slepian was a babykilling abortionist and killed babies for money. James Kopp stopped him from murdering any more children and I’m glad he did. Your support for baby murderer Slepian is disgraceful. Slepian was a babykilling abortionist and killed babies for money. James Kopp stopped him from murdering any more children and I’m glad he did. SAY THIS PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and am headed to eternal hell because of my sins. I believe you died on the cross to take away my sins and to take me to heaven. Jesus, I ask you now to come into my heart and take away my sins and give me eternal life.
