Kuhl-Massa Debate

Here’s a clip from last night’s debate between Rep. Randy Kuhl, R-Hammondsport, Steuben County, and Democratic opponent Eric Massa.
The full Elmira Star-Gazette story delves into the many issues the debate covered, but the clip shows their 30-second answers on the war in Iraq.
Kuhl said a decision to withdraw troops should be left to commanders on the ground. And as he has done in the past, he made sure to mention that he wasn’t in Congress at the time of the original vote to send troops into Iraq.
Still, Kuhl said he has supported the troops through funding requests and
“the surge has worked, violence is down.”
Massa, a former Navy veteran, said it’s time to bring the troops home, divide Iraq into three states with a central government like in Bosnia, where he served, and tap into the $80 billion surplus that Iraq has.
